Heritage Preservation Discussion with The Bandoeng Heritage Walk, Appreciation for the Revitalization of Laswi Heritage Area

Bandung, September 24, 2025 — Laswi Heritage, a former state-owned railway warehouse in Bandung and part of Tamansari Laswi City, has been revitalized by PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk (“WIKA”) and PT Wijaya Karya Realty (“WIKA Realty”) into a vibrant public space. To mark this preservation effort and celebrate the success story of its revitalization, The Bandoeng Heritage Walk (a community of Dutch-Indonesian railway heritage enthusiasts) held a discussion at Nerd Laboratory on Wednesday (24/9).

The event was attended by the Head of the Tourism and Culture Office of West Java Province, Iendra Sofyan; the Head of the Culture and Tourism Office of Bandung City, Adi Junjunan Mustafa; President Director of WIKA Realty, Fery Safaria; Bram Ibrahim as Chairman of the BoD KSO WIKA – WIKA Realty; Rizka Kautsar as Executive Vice President of Development & Marketing at WIKA Realty; Nohandika Anggadibowo as Realty Manager of Laswi; Dicky Soeria Atmadja as Senior Cartographer in Railway Heritage at ITB; Widoyoko as Director of The Bandoeng Heritage Walk Netherlands Chapter; the Head of DPC HPI Bandung; Bintang Sarpingi; and Chairman of PGWI Bandung, Deni Sugandi.

The event began with a Magazijn SS Mini Tour and a welcoming speech by the Head of the Bandung City Culture and Tourism Office, who expressed appreciation for the collaboration between the government, community, and business sector in reviving cultural heritage.

President Director of WIKA Realty, Fery Safaria, also shared insights on heritage area development by WIKA. “For us, heritage is not merely a symbol of the past, but a collaborative space that brings new life to the city. Beyond preserving history to remain relevant to public needs, heritage spaces also have the potential to be developed into commercial areas that drive economic activity and open opportunities for cross-sector growth,” he said.

The discussion continued with a presentation by Widoyoko on international experiences of Railway Heritage Adaptive Reuse in the Netherlands, which he drew as lessons for Laswi Heritage. He emphasized that the adaptive reuse concept applied at Laswi Heritage successfully preserves the historical value of the site while providing economic and social benefits to the community.

Through this discussion, Laswi Heritage is expected to become a model of successful and sustainable heritage revitalization, while also boosting tourism and strengthening Bandung’s cultural identity.
